Day 5 - 3/28 - The long road through TX

This is going to be a short entry since we there were no big stops on the way, and no cool campsite reasonably close to White Sands. Finding spots is great if you have an RV, but not so easy for tent camping. J and M had been getting along quite well so far, but I wanted them to get some of the boogies out before heading onto the highway so we scooted back down to White Sands with a saucer so that they could play for a while

The temp was 32F and the sand was COLD. We were all barefoot again (it was sand, after all) but I ran back into the car and J and M put on some shoes to play.

And off we went -- another goodbye to Las Cruces, zoom past El Paso and made a short stop in Fort Stockton, TX. Got directions from a guy who said "yes, ma'am" so many times and with such respect that Juju was completely impressed. We stopped in to a local store to get avocadoes and apparently we stuck out like sore thumbs because people kept checking us out. Small town, so maybe any new face is of interest. Stopped to try some fried, whole jalapenos which just about melted my teeth, and then found a business opportunity!Double click on the photo to check it out, Dougy! :-)

Kept on going until we arrived at our destination, Sonora, TX. I read that this place has an incredible cavern tour - better than Carlsbad by far - so we'll do that tomorrow. We got there just in time for Juju and Maya to pan for gems.
