Good Morning! We got into our campsite late and weren't quite sure what it was all about -- I just saw the palmettos and was happy with that. Maya woke up at 6:20 and we listened to the loudest birdsong I have ever heard outside of a jungle. Turns out we were right next to a marsh, with lots and lots of birds. We fell back to sleep anyway, and then got up and ready to check out the beaches. We were too far east to check out the beaches near Biloxi, so we headed out to AL and Dauphin Island. Interesting to see every house on the island on stilts, and beautiful beaches.

White sand beaches

"Look Maya! There's some old crab claw! Dig it up!...Oh!! It's alive!!"

On the ferry from Dauphin Island to get to Gulf Shores, AL (photoshop would be useful here.... When we were about to dock a pod of five bottlenose dolphins swam with us, just like Flipper!

On to Orange Beach, AL - another fine white-sand beach. Who would've thought it?

And here we are!! We called Annette to let her know we had made it to her new state, though we were still many hours away from her.

I was so excited to camp at Ft. Pickens State Park outside of Pensacola, but they were unusually full so we were shut out. Same with other places. Waaaaaaaaaaah. Oh well, tomorrow we're at Annette's!
